6/16/20 Update: Four more neighborhoods reopen as 36 residents recover
June 16, 2020
This past week has brought encouraging news to our campus community as we celebrated 36 more residents recovering from COVID-19 since June 5! These recoveries meant four more of our COVID-19 units/neighborhoods in the Lyngblomsten Care Center were able to reopen as non-COVID-19 units/neighborhoods. (As we previously reported, we first achieved this milestone with the Fergstad Neighborhood on June 2.) In total, 56 residents have recovered since our first confirmed resident case on April 28.
At the same time, we mourn the loss of our residents who have died from COVID-19. Since June 5, 5 residents have died due to the virus*, bringing our total number of COVID-19 resident deaths to 20. *A detail that is important to know: When a resident who has tested positive dies during the time their COVID-19 diagnosis is considered active, their death must be included in the count of COVID deaths even if they had exhibited no symptoms. We care for medically frail people and at any given time have three to four dozen people on hospice. Some people will pass away from their natural disease process while they are COVID-positive.
Weekly testing of care center residents and staff continues. As of June 16, there are 7 active resident cases and 10 active employee cases.
We continue to be humbled by our residents’ positive attitudes in the face of difficulties. We’re grateful for all our staff who have gone above and beyond in providing quality care, as well as for our residents’ family members who continue to shower us with prayers, support, and words of encouragement. Thank you!
